Pre-Ride Inspection

Before each ride, perform a thorough inspection to ensure safe operation.

  1. Check fuel level and add fuel if necessary.
  2. Inspect tires for proper pressure and damage.
  3. Check all fluid levels (engine oil, coolant, brake fluid).
  4. Test brakes and throttle for smooth operation.
  5. Ensure lights, indicators, and horn are functioning.
  6. Verify that all controls are free from obstruction.
  7. Check for loose bolts, nuts, or damaged parts.

WARNING! Never operate the ATV if any inspection item fails. Repair or replace components before riding.

Controls and Instruments

Familiarize yourself with all controls before riding.

Handlebar Controls: Throttle lever, brake lever (front), brake pedal (rear), On-Command switch (2WD/4WD/diff lock), light switch, engine stop switch, start button, differential lock switch, 4WD indicator.

Instrument Panel: Speedometer, odometer, trip meter, fuel gauge, gear position indicator, coolant temperature warning light, oil pressure warning light, EPS indicator, 4WD/differential lock indicators.

Other Controls: Fuel valve, parking brake lever, seat latch, shift lever (F-N-R), reverse speed limiter override button.

Specifications

Starting and Stopping the Engine

Follow these steps to start and stop the engine safely.

  1. Ensure the transmission is in Neutral (N).
  2. Turn the fuel valve to ON.
  3. Sit on the ATV and apply the brakes.
  4. Turn the ignition key to ON.
  5. Pull the choke (if cold starting).
  6. Press the start button. Release once the engine starts.
  7. Allow the engine to warm up before riding.
  8. To stop, release the throttle, apply the brakes, shift to Neutral, and turn the ignition key to OFF.

CAUTION! Do not operate the starter for more than 5 seconds. Wait 15 seconds between attempts.

Driving Procedures

Operating the Grizzly 700 in various conditions.

  1. Mount the ATV and fasten your helmet.
  2. Start the engine and release the parking brake.
  3. Select Forward (F), Neutral (N), or Reverse (R) with the shift lever.
  4. Gradually apply throttle to move. Use brakes to slow or stop.
  5. For 4WD operation: Use the On-Command switch to select 2WD, 4WD, or 4WD with differential lock as needed for terrain.
  6. Use Electric Power Steering for reduced effort in rough conditions.
  7. When towing, do not exceed the rated capacity and distribute load evenly.

Tip: Practice in a safe, open area before riding on challenging terrain.

Maintenance Schedule

Regular maintenance ensures longevity and reliability. Refer to the manual for detailed procedures.

Interval (miles/hours)Service Item
Every ridePre-ride inspection
100 mi / 10 hrsInitial service: Check all systems, change engine oil and filter
500 mi / 50 hrsChange engine oil, check air filter, inspect brakes, lubricate fittings
1000 mi / 100 hrsChange engine oil and filter, clean air filter, check valve clearance, inspect drive shaft and boots
2000 mi / 200 hrsChange coolant, inspect brake pads, replace spark plug, check wheel bearings

WARNING! Always use genuine Yamaha parts and recommended lubricants.

Storage and Transport

Proper storage and transport prevent damage.

  1. For storage: Clean the ATV thoroughly, change engine oil, fill fuel tank and add fuel stabilizer, remove battery and store in a cool, dry place, inflate tires to recommended pressure, store in a dry, covered area.
  2. For transport: Secure the ATV on a trailer or truck bed using quality tie-downs on the frame (not suspension or handlebars). Engage the parking brake and place transmission in gear.

CAUTION! Do not run the engine in an enclosed space due to carbon monoxide risk.

Safety Information

Always prioritize safety when operating the Grizzly 700.
