Installation

Unpack and inspect contents. Place on sturdy, level bench.

  1. Level the lathe: Use precision level on bed ways; adjust bench feet.
  2. Mount motor: Align pulleys; adjust belt tension.
  3. Connect power: Wire according to voltage (110V or 220V).
  4. Install chuck: Mount on D1-4 spindle using camlock pins.
  5. Fill oil reservoirs: Headstock, gearbox, and apron.

WARNING! Lathe is heavy; use proper lifting equipment. Ensure bench can support weight.

First-Time Setup

Power on lathe; perform initial checks.

  1. Check rotation: Ensure spindle turns clockwise (forward).
  2. Test speeds: Verify variable speed control operates smoothly.
  3. Set up quick-change gearbox: Select desired thread pitch or feed rate.
  4. Align tailstock: Adjust to be concentric with spindle.
  5. Test feeds: Engage half-nut lever and power feed.

CAUTION! Always wear safety glasses. Keep hands clear of moving parts.

Specifications

Controls and Settings

Main Controls: Power Switch, Forward/Reverse Lever, Speed Control Knob, Emergency Stop.

Headstock: Speed selector, Spindle lock. Carriage: Handwheel, Cross Slide, Compound Rest, Feed Direction Lever, Half-Nut Lever. Quick-Change Gearbox: Levers for thread pitch and feed rate selection.

Settings: Speed adjustment via knob and belt position. Feed and thread selection via gearbox levers (refer to chart on lathe). Compound rest angle adjustment for taper turning.

Connecting Accessories

Common accessories: 3-Jaw Chuck, 4-Jaw Chuck, Faceplate, Live Center, Steady Rest, Follow Rest.

  1. Turn off and unplug lathe before installing accessories.
  2. Mount chuck: Align pins on D1-4 spindle, tighten camlock pins evenly.
  3. Install centers: Insert into spindle or tailstock taper; use drawbar if required.
  4. Attach rests: Mount steady/follow rest on bed ways; adjust fingers to workpiece.

Tip: Clean tapers before insertion to ensure proper seating.

Basic Operations

Supports turning, facing, drilling, boring, and knurling.

  1. Mount workpiece: Secure in chuck or between centers.
  2. Select speed: Based on material and operation (refer to speed chart).
  3. Set tool height: Align cutting tool with centerline.
  4. Engage feed: Use carriage handwheel or power feed.
  5. Take cuts: Use cross slide and compound for depth control.
  6. Facing: Move tool perpendicular to axis.
  7. Drilling: Secure drill in tailstock; advance quill.
  8. Parting: Use parting tool; apply steady feed and coolant.

WARNING! Never leave chuck key in chuck. Remove chips with brush, not hands.

Threading Operations

Cut internal and external threads using quick-change gearbox.

  1. Select thread pitch: Set gearbox levers per chart.
  2. Set compound: Angle to 29 degrees for most threading.
  3. Engage half-nut lever at correct mark on threading dial.
  4. Take cuts: Feed in with compound; retract tool at end of pass.
  5. Use thread gauge to check fit.

Note: Disengage half-nut before reversing carriage.
