Pre-Ride Inspection

Before each ride, perform a thorough inspection to ensure safe operation.

  1. Check fuel level and ensure there are no leaks.
  2. Inspect tires for proper pressure (Front: 3.9 psi / 27 kPa, Rear: 3.4 psi / 24 kPa) and damage.
  3. Test brakes (front lever and rear pedal) for proper function.
  4. Verify all lights (headlights, taillight, brake light) are working.
  5. Check throttle lever for smooth operation and free return.
  6. Ensure drive chain is properly lubricated and adjusted.
  7. Confirm oil level is within range on dipstick.

WARNING! Never operate the ATV if any inspection item fails. Address issues before riding.

Controls and Indicators

Familiarize yourself with all controls located on the handlebars and dashboard.

Left Handlebar: Headlight switch, 2WD/4WD switch, differential lock button, horn, indicator lights. Right Handlebar: Electric start button, engine stop switch, throttle lever, front brake lever. Operation Guidelines

Starting the Engine: Ensure transmission is in Neutral (N). Turn key ON, pull choke if cold, press brake lever, press start button. Release choke as engine warms.

  1. Shifting: Select F (Forward), N (Neutral), or R (Reverse) with gear lever. Always come to a complete stop before shifting between F and R.
  2. 4WD Operation: Use the On-Command switch to select 2WD or 4WD while moving at low speed. Engage differential lock only when stopped or moving very slowly in 4WD to assist in extreme traction situations.
  3. Braking: Use both front and rear brakes together for controlled stops. The sealed wet brake provides rear braking and engine braking in 4WD.
  4. Riding on Slopes: Shift weight forward uphill, backward downhill. Avoid turning on steep slopes.

CAUTION! Always wear an approved helmet, eye protection, gloves, boots, and protective clothing. Never carry passengers.

Basic Maintenance Procedures

Engine Oil Change: Run engine to warm oil. Place on level ground. Remove drain plug and oil filter cap. Drain oil. Replace filter (if equipped) and drain plug washer. Refill with 3.7 qts (3.5 L) of SAE 10W-30 Yamalube or equivalent 4-stroke motorcycle oil. Check level on dipstick.

  1. Air Filter Service: Remove seat and side panel. Unclip air filter cover. Remove foam filter, wash in solvent, dry, and apply filter oil. Reinstall.
  2. Spark Plug: Remove with spark plug wrench. Check gap (0.028-0.031 in / 0.7-0.8 mm). Clean or replace with NGK CR7E or equivalent.
  3. Drive Shaft Oil: Remove filler and drain plugs. Drain old oil. Refill with 80W-90 gear oil until it reaches the filler hole level.

Tip: Always use genuine Yamaha parts or equivalents meeting Yamaha specifications.

Storage Guidelines

For long-term storage (over 30 days), prepare the ATV to prevent deterioration.

  1. Clean the ATV thoroughly and apply wax to painted surfaces.
  2. Change engine oil and filter.
  3. Fill fuel tank and add fuel stabilizer. Run engine for 5 minutes to circulate.
  4. Remove spark plug, pour a teaspoon of engine oil into cylinder, crank engine slowly, reinstall plug.
  5. Disconnect battery negative terminal. Store battery in a cool, dry place and charge monthly.
  6. Inflate tires to recommended pressure and block ATV to lift tires off ground.
  7. Store in a cool, dry place away from sunlight and moisture.

CAUTION! Gasoline is extremely flammable. Perform fuel system work in a well-ventilated area away from sparks or flames.
